TWO SEATS DOWN

Beth Keeping, Lauren McLamb

I knew as soon as I got the invitation
You’d be here with the girl I heard you’re dating
I see the ring I see that you’re engaged and
I smile, lean over, say “Congratulations”

You were a right of passage university love
Part magic, or maybe we were just drunk
We had it but it wasn’t enough

So now you’re just two seats down
A face in a crowd
A stranger passing through town
Just a guy a party
Somebody I swear I’ve seen around
I used to think I couldn’t live without you
Now I don’t know anything about you
Over the years we’ve drifted far apart but never farther than we are right now
Two seats down

It’s strange to think that after all our history
I haven’t missed and you haven’t missed me
I couldn’t tell you where you’re working
Or what city you’re living in
If you’re hanging with the same group of crazy friends
Is it sad that I don’t even care?

Now you’re just two seats down
A face in a crowd
A stranger passing through town
Just a guy a party
Somebody I swear I’ve seen around
I used to think I couldn’t live without you
Now I don’t know anything about you
Over the years we’ve drifted far apart but never farther than we are right now
Two seats down

You were a right of passage, university love
Part magic, maybe we were just drunk
We had it but it wasn’t enough
You were a right of passage, university love
Part magic, part kidding myself
Hard to imagine there was ever an us

Now you’re just two seats down
A face in a crowd
A stranger passing through town
Just a guy a party
Somebody I swear I’ve seen around
I used to think I couldn’t live without you
Now I don’t know anything about you
Over the years we’ve drifted far apart but never farther than we are right now
Two seats down
