He’s Coming Home

Beth Keeping

There’s a checkered shirt lying folded at the foot of the stairs
You’d wear it in December spill dinner down it every single year
You were never famous except to those blessed to know your face
You went on hundreds of adventures, and filled the room with wisdom and grace

Though it isn’t easy
I think that you were ready

Hallelujah
He’s coming home
Hallelujah
He’s running down the road
Mourning turns to dancing because we know
Hallelujah
He’s coming home

You left that old shirt with us ‘cause every day is Christmas up there
Looked peaceful in your spirit, you knew that it is finished
Every paper in your office holds a story I wish I had heard
You spent your whole life sowing seeds, now trees are growing all around the world

Hallelujah
He’s coming home
Hallelujah
He’s running down the road
Mourning turns to dancing because we know
Hallelujah
He’s coming home

Get the party started
Play the music loud
And let the carpet roll
It's a celebration
Come and join us
Welcoming him home

Hallelujah
He’s coming home
Hallelujah
He’s running down the road
Mourning turns to dancing and we know
Hallelujah
He’s coming home
